Light weight at just on 500 grams with the battery, handle and gimbal with a phone setup it is less than 1 kg making it light weight and easy to carry anywhere.
Uses for the Product
The DJI OSMO Mobile was specifically designed to be a stabiliser for mobile phone cameras and can provide stabilised video footage as well as the ability to create timelapse videos as well as motion timelapse videos. When combined with the DJI Tripood and Extension rod as well as many other accessories the range of this device is increased to being a mini video studio.
Pros
- Beautifully presented in its packaging.
- Easy to use.
- Strong sturdy construction.
- Stands stable on the dji Tripod and extension rod.
- Quality Machining of the moulded plastic and aluminium parts.
- Comfortable grip and easy to carry.
- Good quality for the price.
Cons
- Although the iPhone 7Plus fits easily into the gimbal the stabiliser does not always balance perfectly with this phone type.
- Disappointing that the DJI Go App currently only allows filming of 1080p at 30 FPS as a maximum. Especially when the iPhone 7Plus is capable of up to 240 FPS in the native camera app.
- Stabilizing motors do tend to heat up quickly based on the workload.
- Purchase price does not include shipping if purchased online from DJI store.
How much are you likely to pay?
The RRP on the DJI Website is AU$499.95 this is quite reasonable considering the quality of the workmanship and machining of the parts.
Personal Comments
So far I have been impressed with its performance and ease of use not to mention how compact it is making it easy to carry as a traveler or just as a mobile pice of kit for my camera bag.
I love the fluid look of the footage I’m getting when filming on my iPhone as well as the smooth time lapse footage I have also been getting by leaving it set on the tripod and extension rod.
I am a little annoyed by the vibration that occurs when leaving it in the motion time lapse setting when on the extension rod and tripod when the rod is at full extension. However this is more a function of physics than a problem with the design. A jerry rigged solution to act as a stabiliser for the rod itself could absorb the vibration and prevent this from occurring.
I was also happy with the quality of the packing material and the way in which the rod was presented as it was in a matte black coloured box cardboard box with a heavy duty moulded rubber insert that it was fitted into.
I do find the 3.5mm power jack to be a little odd and a little annoying as this is a unique setup that will be difficult to utilize if the cable is lost and the spare battery charger is not purchased.
It would be awesome if a future software update would allow for faster frame rates in the App as well as providing the ability to set a motorized pan and tilt function during normal filming as can be done in motion time lapse.
